I looked on internet and found several mods to unlock the clarifier for stalker radio but they talk about different parts what I do not find on my board, the colours of the wires are also different than the ones in this radio. So I just need a simple solution, the method 1 is most interesting for me, do you have this modification for me ? The USB and LSB adjustments are easy enough, look for the 11 MHz crystal near where the channel switch connects to the circuit board. This is a complex mod though, only techs with a fair bit of radio experience will attempt that one.Īnother possibility is to use an external VFO on it, but like method #2 it's not a simple change for the inexperienced. Method #2 is changing the PLL out to one that does 5K steps, the MB8719 or MB8734 you currently have will only do 10K steps. The downside? Best done with at least a frequency counter, and the radio will drift off frequency with changing temperature. This will give you about 15KHz of "slide", more than enough to get the "zeroes". If that doesn't give you enough, add the extra components used on the Cobra 148 (the GTL, not the DX version) - the clarifier circuits are similar apart from the extra components in the 148.

There are two ways to do it, either by unlocking the clarifier increasing its range, or by swapping the PLL for another chip.įor method #1, you might get away with adding an inductor (say 4.7uH) in series with the clarifiers varactor diode.
